Srinagar, Jun 26 (KNO): A coordinated security and facilitation operation led by Jammu and Kashmir Police ensured the peaceful observance of Youm-e-Ashura (10th Muharram) across Srinagar on Friday, with Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat monitoring arrangements on the ground along the main procession route.
The DGP visited the Zadibal procession route, reviewed security deployment, interacted with officers and assessed crowd management measures.
Mourners were also seen posing for photographs with the DGP during his visit.
As per details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a large number of mourners participated in the Ashura processions across Srinagar, with the biggest congregation recorded in the Zadibal area.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi, speaking on the sidelines, said elaborate multi-tier security and traffic arrangements were put in place well in advance to ensure peaceful conduct and smooth movement of processions.
He said the deployment included personnel from Jammu and Kashmir Police, Traffic Police, Executive Police, Civil Police, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), all working in coordinated formations across sensitive and high-footfall areas.
“Extensive arrangements were made to ensure that the procession moves smoothly and the public faces minimal inconvenience,” the IGP said.
The IGP also highlighted that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, with forces deployed along both pilgrimage routes, including security, traffic and emergency response units.
